Blue Pine Casket Co.
Be sure and use the menu at left to browse through the site to find out more about our blue pine caskets, a product of Caskets by Design.
The distinctive blue colorings found through-out the pine wood develops from a natural process, initially caused by the western pine beetle, a very small insect that bores into the pine wood and a fungus that develops is what stains the wood blue.
The structural damage from the beetle is minimal and will not weaken the wood, but most commercial companies that produce products made from pine, prefer the pines natural color and will cull out the blue colored stock, which we believe is a total waste of good pine wood.
In the last few years the western forests have seen a big increase in pine beetles, and the amount of blue colored pine wood has also increased, and unfortunately much of that blue wood eventually ends up being burned, which in turn adds more CO2 gases to the environment.
We have decided to utilize the blue streaked wood for use in our pine caskets, that not only adds a nice color and a unique character to each casket, but it also helps to promote healthy forests and reduce green house gases at the same time.
